Tavon Austin of the Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore’s own hosted his 5th Annual Game Changers youth football clinic at Woodlawn High School. Over 250 local youth, ages 7-17, broken down into three age groups , 5-8, 9-12, 13-17, hit the field to condition with local youth, high school and college coaches. Tavon did his annual 40 yard dash race with each age group to see who the next rising star would be. Dicks Sporting Goods provided gift cards to the three individuals that beat Tavon in the 40 and DTLR provided the sounds, shirts and lunch for participants.
DTLR hosted the DTLR Track & Field Invitational at Meadowbrook High School in Richmond, Virginia. DTLR’s Community Outreach and Marketing team provided giveaways for spectators, medals for 2nd through 5th place and trophies, encrusted with the DTLR logo for 1st place. Special thank you goes to ESPN Radio and iPower 92.1 Radio for being on site to stream the event and take on air interviews with participants.
WBC Junior Middleweight Boxing Champion Tony Harrison, not only opened his heart but also his gym on the West side of Detroit and partnered with DTLR and Detroit community activist LaTrell McNairy of Metamorphosis Management, to give back to a lucky group of young ladies this prom season.
In a small corner room, in a small facility in SE Washington DC, stations were set up where women could choose to receive free manicures, hair touch ups, waxing, facials and make up. As they entered the room they were assigned a number and time slot and were sent on their Spa Day experience. There were raffles to local shows every half hour, a spa themed food spread and each guests received a gift bag at the end of their visit filled with things all women love such as make up and smell goods!
With a city plagued with high homicide rates and a drug culture that is unruly, an organization by the name of 'Safe Streets' emerged and set up shop in a small building next to a church, just across the way from the Pennsylvania Triangle Park in West Baltimore. This group of natives call themselves "Violence Interrupters" and their mission is solely to diffuse situations that could result in a violent outcome throughout different neighborhoods. At the DTLR VILLA store in Genesee Valley Center, staff stepped up to the plate, side by side with Flint native and Denver Nuggets point guard, Monte Morris to let the community know they are not forgotten. Long lines wrapped around the store as Morris and DTLR VILLA staff distributed cases of water to the residents of Flint. Not only did Morris host this opportunity, once he presented this initiative to his teammates, they were compelled to join him for such a good cause. Mason Plumlee and Will Barton pulled up to the in-store event, along with some of the Nuggets coaching staff, to distribute cases of water, sign autographs, and show the city of Flint some love!
DTLR VILLA partnered with the brands STAPLE PIGEON and TIMBERLAND to bring a unique experience to six young men from Oak Park High School in Michigan. These gentlemen were pampered and styled for a day as Brand Ambassadors for both brands. All of the young men who participated in the shoot were able to keep the items they were featured in.
DTLR host an annual toy drive at all of our DTLR locations across the country. Customers drop off a toy worth $10 or more in exchange for the placement of their name on a list that guarantees their size for a selected release. Many customers donate just out of the kindness of their hearts and donated multiple toys! As each store collected toys, the managers selected organizations in their regions to be the recipient of the toys. In support of former first lady Michelle Obama's College Signing Day initiative, we partnered with GreiBo Media and other sponsors including the Mayor's & State's Attorney's offices for this program held at Royal Farms Arena. Thousands of high school seniors from across the city came together to celebrate reaching graduation and to be encouraged to make sound choices for their future.
Students were met with support from volunteers, on-site college reps, and several organizations serving as resources to them. Not to mention performances by Baltimore artists Lil Key, Kondwani Fidel, Peso Da Mafia, and Creek Boyz. With the youth choir from Cardinal Shehan performing as the headliners!
DTLR x Yard Talk 101 come together at CIAA Education Day, one of the conference’s most popular events during the CIAA Basketball Tournament. More than 3,500 middle and high school students attended the event to meet with college recruiters from various Schools to learn tips to prepare for college as well as get the inside track on the collegiate experience.
