School's In Session- The 6 Region Recap

Since the end of July, the DTLR outreach team has been focused on the education pillar of our mission by joining with our community partners to help alleviate some of the stress placed on parents for back to school during the pandemic.

In Baltimore we were alongside The Movement Team and volunteers from other local organizations to stuff 5,000 book bags with school supplies to donate to local students in need throughout Baltimore City. We also lead a caravan through the entire city with the DTLR music truck, Movement Team sprinter, two Penske trucks filled with supplies and prizes, ice cream truck with free ice cream, a school bus filled with resources and community members that just wanted to spread love.

In Philadelphia will teamed up with Senator Art Haywood and Regular Fellows Foundation to help local students prepare for the upcoming school year. During the event, we distributed school supplies, book bags, uniforms, masks, and hand sanitizers to local students in need.

Also in Philadelphia, we partnered with our well-known community partner Maxwell Brown of Getting the Max Out of Life, for his My Community, My Responsibility back to school giveaway and block party. We setup a mini pop up shop to distribute uniform pants to students in need. The local youth also experienced fitness opportunities with reps from the 76ers, all while Philadelphia PD manned the grills and hooked up the hamburgers and hot dogs for the community.

In Florida we attended four of our partner organization’s Back To School Giveaway events. These events were held in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, and Tallahassee. Alongside the amazing organizations, in total we provided 800 Bookbags with supplies, as well as 500 pair of uniform pants to go along with our Dare To Live Right PPE and mental health awareness brochures.

In Atlanta we served as the tile sponsor for the NAACP’s Annual Back to School Festival, in which we were able to distribute 300 bookbags full of school supplies, hand sanitizers and masks, along with 300 of our Dare To Live Right mental health awareness fact brochures.

In Cleveland, we partnered with DJ Stroke for his 8th Annual Backpack giveaway at Wade Park Elementary School. We help give away over 500 bookbags to kids with school supplies, food, clothing, and much more. We also partnered with Buckeye Plaza (Store 3030) and Ward 6 for a Back To School Event. Along with school supplies and bookbag giveaway, there were free haircuts, health screening, food and drinks.
